Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Rabbit Decoration, Stamped "NORTON & FENTON / BENNINGTON, VT," circa 1845, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, flared collar, and applied lug handles, brush-decorated with a leaping rabbit atop a flowering stem. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Provenance: From a recently-surfaced Illinois collection. Water glass staining to surface. Areas of in-the-firing discoloration to surface. A 4 1/2" Y-shaped surface line to underside, not visible on interior. H 12 1/8".
