Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "F.B. NORTON & CO: / WORCESTER, MASS.," circa 1858-1877, cylindrical jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested bird with spotted body, perched on a stylized branch. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. The bird decoration on this jug is atypical of the maker. A few small flakes to spout. An extensive tight spider crack to proper right side / reverse side of jug. Minor chipping to base. Staining to surface. A small in-the-firing iron ping to shoulder underneath handle. H 13 3/4".
