Scarce One-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Parrot and Crossed Leaf Decoration, Stamped "F.B. NORTON & CO / WORCESTER, MASS.," circa 1858-1877, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested parrot perched on crossed leaves, accented with flourishes. Cobalt accent to maker's mark. Unusually elaborate decoration for this size of crock. Curving crack from rim on proper right side of crock, extending through handle and continuing onto far right side of crock's front. A 5" crack from rim on proper left side of crock, extending through handle. Grease residue to surface. In-the-firing chips to bottom edge. Some bubbling to cobalt. Exfoliation to interior base. H 7 3/8".
