Extremely Rare Moravian Copper-Glazed Redware Owl Bottle, Salem, NC origin, circa 1804-1820, molded bottle in the form of an owl with applied ears and spout, standing on a mound. Elaborate recessed detail to the bird's wings and surrounding the eyes. Surface covered in a mottled lead and copper glaze. Among the rarer figural bottles known from North Carolina's Moravian potting tradition and the first that we have offered. Broken into four or five pieces and tightly reglued, with coloring along breaks. A flake to base on front. Some wear to spout, ears, beak, and tip of tail. Loss to one toe. H 5 1/2".
