Unusual One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "F.B. NORTON & CO. / WORCESTER. MASS.," circa 1870, cylindrical jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested bird perched on a stylized branch. Light cobalt accent to maker's mark. The bird motif on this jug is atypical of this pottery. Small spout chips. A shallow 7/8" base chip and other very minor base chips. An in-the-firing flaw near base on front. Staining to surface. H 11 1/4".
