Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "J. NORTON & CO. / BENNINGTON VT," circa 1860, cylindrical jug with semi-squared spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested bird perched on a scrolled branch. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A 7/8" in-the-firing ping to reverse near base. Gray paint residue to proper left side of jug. Spots of staining, primarily to reverse. A small chip to base of handle. H 14".
