One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird-on-Stump Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON VT," circa 1855, cylindrical jug with squared spout, decorated with slip-trailed design of a plump bird with long tail, perched on a tree stump. Desirable design, maker, and size. Very nice condition. Some light wear to cobalt. A spot of staining to reverse. Some in-the-firing crazing to underside and base. A few very minor base chips. A minor, glazed-over base chip. Minor wear to interior of spout, possibly in-the-making. H 11".
