Rare One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Locust Grove, MD Advertising, Stamped "P. HERRMANN," Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and squared rim, featuring the impressed and cobalt-highlighted advertising, "FROM / CHJ SPARKS / DEALER IN DRY GOODS GROCERIES &C / LOCUST GROVE MD." The first example of stoneware that we have offered bearing advertising for this Kent County, Eastern Shore of Maryland town name. A thin 6 1/4" crack from rim on front. A tight network of lines to underside and base. An approximately 8" diagonal ascending from base on front onto proper left side of jar. A rim chip on proper right side of jar. H 11 1/4".
