Three-Gallon Lidded Stoneware Cake Crock with Cobalt Clover Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1860, wide, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and arched tab handles, brush-decorated on the front and reverse with a two-stemmed clover plant. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals and a curving line of cobalt below each handle. Original lid decorated with daubs of cobalt around the edge and knob. Crock with several rim chips and a 3/4" hairline from rim above one handle. Lid with a chip and nick to underside of rim and chips to flange on underside. H (including lid) 8 1/2" ; Diam. (of lid) 14".
