Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Coggled Bird-and-Leaf Motif, attributed to Branch Green, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1820, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and rounded rim, decorated with a coggled and cobalt-highlighted design depicting a bird holding a leaf in its beak. Excellent condition. A 7/8" chip to underside at edge. Other minor base chips. A small in-the-firing surface chip (contact mark) to body. Two small in-the-firing chips to top of rim. H 12 1/2".
