Fine Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Elaborate Cobalt Foliate Decoration, Stamped "WM. E. WARNER / WEST TROY," circa 1855, cylindrical jug with wide, semi-rounded spout, decorated with an intricate slip-trailed design of plant with scrolled stems, two detailed leaves, and a central heart-shaped vine motif underscored by spots. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Portions of second line of maker's mark missing. An in-the-firing contact mark to top of handle. A small in-the-firing surface fissure to shoulder on reverse. A small amount of fry to cobalt near base of decoration. A small glazed-over base chip. H 14 1/2".
