Scarce Redware Jar with Elaborate Manganese Slip Decoration, attributed to David Mandeville, Circleville, NY, circa 1830, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and rope-twist handles, the lead-glazed surface decorated in brushed manganese slip with large scrolled X's around the body, smaller X's around the shoulder, and dashes along the rim. Rim with wear and a shallow chip. Wear to handles. Body with flakes and surface wear. A 5/8" base chip and two minor base chips. A few very short, faint surface lines to foot, not visible on interior. H 7 3/4".
