Exceptional Redware Cream Pitcher with Marbled Three-Color Slip Decoration, New England origin, probably Norwalk, CT, early to mid 19th century, thin-walled, ovoid pitcher with footed base, tooled midsection, and flared rim, lavishly-decorated throughout with marbled yellow-colored, copper, and manganese slip under a clear lead glaze. The striking, joggled slip treatment on this pitcher is occasionally seen on dishes attributed to Norwalk, Connecticut, but rarely on this form. Among the finest Northeastern redware pitchers that we have ever offered, this work even includes marbled slip decoration to its delicate, finely-ribbed handle. A lidded jar by the same maker was sold in Crocker Farm, Inc.'s Spring 2023 auction, lot 255. Chips and wear to rim and spout. Two base chips. Wear to handle. A small in-the-firing lime ping to left of handle. H 5 1/2".
