Scarce One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Impressed Fish Decoration, attributed to Frederick Carpenter, Charlestown, MA, early 19th century, ovoid jar with footed base, heavily-tooled shoulder, and flared rim, decorated on the front and reverse with an impressed and cobalt-highlighted fish motif. Dipped iron-oxide decoration to base and rim. Desirable decoration and size, rarer than the fish-decorated pieces produced slightly earlier by Jonathan Fenton. A 1 3/4" rim chip. Other smaller rim chips. Wear to inner rim for lid. A 3/4" base chip. Flakes to shoulder on one side. H 10".
