Scarce Bowl-Shaped Open-Handled Stoneware Jar with Incised Floral Decoration, Northeastern U.S. origin, early 19th century, wide, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and open loop handles, decorated on the front and reverse with incised and cobalt-highlighted floral motifs featuring a semi-circular flower emanating from a leafy stem. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Desirable form. A 3/4" in-the-firing crack in rim. A few very minor in-the-firing rim chips. A thin 2 1/4" crack on underside, extending a few inches onto base area. A very faint 1 1/2" surface line on underside, continuing 1 3/8" up base, not visible on interior. Dimensions: Diam. (at rim) 9 3/8" ; H 8 5/8".
