Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "N. CLARK & Co / ROCHESTER N.Y.," circa 1839-1851, ovoid jar with applied lug handles and tooling to shoulder and rim, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a daisy plant featuring cobalt-tipped and striped blossoms flanking a wavy trail. Slip-trailed "3" above. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark. A 5 3/4" crack from rim on front. An approximately 7" crack from rim on far left side of crock's front. An 8 1/2" inverted T-shaped crack from rim on reverse, descending from a large chip. Other faint lines to surface, not visible on interior. Light wear to handles. Grease staining to surface. H 12 1/2".
