Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Incised Eagle, Fish, and Bird Decorations, Northeastern U.S. origin, circa 1825, ovoid jug with tooled spout, featuring an incised design of a spread-winged eagle carrying a fish in one foot and reaching for a flying bird with another. Appealing gouged feather patterning to eagle's wings and upper body, as well as the wing's of the bird below. Impressed circular eyes to all three animals. Incised star above. A lightly-incised bird with turned head appears on the proper left side of the jug. Outstanding decoration. A network of very tight lines / crazing to bottom half of jug. A thin 4" crack on underside, forming a spider line to base area on proper right side of jug. A minor in-the-firing spout chip. H 13 3/4”.
