Fine Vertical-Handled Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Watch Spring Motif, probably Manhattan, NY origin, third quarter 18th century, ovoid jar with footed base, heavily-tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and open vertical handles; decorated on the front, reverse, and at the base of the handles with slip-trailed "watch spring" motifs. Brushed cobalt highlights to upper handle terminals. Desirable form and early period decoration. One handle professionally restored. A 5 1/2" vertical crack ascending from base below one handle, partially visible on interior. A thin 1" hairline on underside, continuing 6" up one side of jar. Additional additional short, thin lines and/or crazing to surface, likely in-the-firing. Small base chips. One rim chip. H 10 1/4".
