Very Rare Small-Sized Stoneware Jar with Slip-Trailed Floral Decoration, Manhattan, NY origin, mid 18th century, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and flared rim, decorated withfour spotted, three-petaled floral motifs around the shoulder, below a cobalt band. This piece is of the same age and origin as a number of surviving "watch spring" decorated vessels, although its cobalt decoration is significantly rarer. Excellent condition with a small base chip and the following typical in-the-firing flaws: a small rim chip, crazing to rim and shoulder area, and a small piece of adhered clay to shoulder. H 8".
