Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Impressed Drape Decoration, Stamped "LIBERTY FOREV / WARNE & LETTs 1807," South Amboy, NJ origin, 1807, ovoid jar with footed base, heavily-tooled shoulder, tall collar, and thin, open loop handles; shoulder impressed with the maker's mark, "LIBERTY FOREV / WARNE & LETTs 1807," below a saw-toothed border. An impressed and cobalt-highlighted pointing hand appears to the right of the inscription, "LIBERY FOREV." Midsection of jar decorated with an impressed and cobalt-highlighted, scalloped drape motif. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. This example features unusually delicate, open handles and an impeccable provenance linking it to one of the 20th century's leading American stoneware collectors/scholars, Georgeanna Greer, and one of the formative figures in the scholarship of New Jersey stoneware, W.
