Fine Five-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Bird-on-Floral Decoration, Stamped "W A MACQUOID / POTTERY WORKS / LITTLE WST 12TH ST N.Y.," circa 1870, cylindrical jar with applied lug handles and tooling to shoulder and rim, brush-decorated with an artistic design of a bird perched on a flowering plant. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Exfoliation to reverse. A rim chip to reverse. A small, partially glazed over chip to interior of rim. Minor wear to inner rim for lid. A 1 1/2" chipped area to underside along bottom edge of reverse. A very minor base chip on front. H 16 1/4".
