Scarce One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Face Decoration, Stamped "W,A.MACQUOID&CO / NEW-YORK / LITTLE WST. 12TH. ST.," circa 1870, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a stylized slip-trailed design of a human face with mustache, beard, large eyes, and gritted teeth. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A minor chip to inner rim for lid. Two minor, adjacent in-the-firing chips to top of rim. A minor nick to proper left handle. Chipping to underside along edge. H 9 3/4".
