Rare One-and-a-Half-Gallon Double-Handled Stoneware Jug, NY State origin, Dated May 1st 1883, cylindrical jug with tooled shoulder, tall spout, and two vertical handles applied at the shoulder, featuring the slip-trailed cobalt inscription, "M.A. Ingalls / Liquor Dealer / May 1st 1883." Rare double-handled form and unusual inclusion of a date. Provenance: From a recently-surfaced Illinois collection. Excellent condition with a minor in-the-firing chip to top of spout, clay residue to top of spout, a small post-firing base chip, a small in-the-firing base chip, which is glazed over, and light staining. H 11 1/2".
