Extremely Rare Open-Handled Stoneware Jar with Incised Floral and Two-Color Slip Decoration, Manhattan, NY origin, possibly John Crolius, Sr., late 18th century, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and open loop handles, decorated on the front and reverse with unusual frilled floral motifs highlighted in manganese and extremely rare copper slip. Impressed and manganese-highlighted drape motifs below handles. Manganese highlights to handle terminals. A large area of restoration to one decorated side, including a surface flake leading to small hole on interior. Restoration to base. A small area of exfoliation below one handle. Crazing and some exfoliation to interior. Crazing to exterior base. H 12 1/2".
