Open-Handled Stoneware Jar with Incised Floral Decoration, Manhattan, NY origin, early 19th century, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and open loop handles, decorated with an incised and cobalt-highlighted design of a flower bud and splayed leaves emanating from a piece of circular fruit. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Related to the work of John Morgan while active in Rockbridge County, Virginia. A 1" rim chip, minor rim chip, and a few very minor rim nicks. Traces of old red paint to rim area. A 3" Y-shaped line on side of jar. Some in-the-firing pings to surface. A small chip to underside and minor chips to bottom edge. Some bubbling to cobalt. H 12 1/4".
