Extremely Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Impressed and Incised Maker's Mark, "J. REMMEY / MANHATTAN-WELLS, / New York," early 19th century, ovoid jug with footed base and heavily-tooled spout, featuring the maker's mark of John Remmey III including the highly unusual, hand-incised words, "New York," with scrolled flourish. Maker's mark bordered by scalloped line decoration. Cobalt accents to maker's mark. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Missing handle. Base chips. A short horizontal line at base. Some typical in-the-firing flaws to surface and some traces of old brown paint. H 15".
