Fine One-Gallon Vertical-Handled Stoneware Jar with Incised Floral Decoration and Two-Color Slip, Manhattan, NY origin, circa 1790, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and vertical open-loop handles, decorated on the front and reverse with incised cluster-shaped floral motifs highlighted in cobalt slip. Stem formed from a two-pronged stylus is highlighted in rare greenish slip. Additional greenish slip highlights to handle terminals. Desirable decoration, form, and size. Very nice condition with a small rim chip, a few minor base chips (one of which is glazed over), and some typical in-the-firing surface flaws. H 9 5/8".
