Five-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Flower Basket Decoration, Stamped "HAXSTUN & CO. / FORT EDWARD, N.Y.," circa 1875, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a cross-hatched, open-handled basket, brimming with flowers, leaves, and dotted and scrolled trails. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Provenance: From a recently-surfaced Illinois collection. Staining to surface. An approximately 6 1/2" spider line to proper right side of crock's front. A minor nick to rim and proper left handle. Two in-the-firing surface fissures to interior base, one including some chipping, both not visible on underside. H 12 1/4".
