Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Stenciled Horse Motif, Stenciled "PALATINE POTTERY Co. / PALATINE. / W. VA," circa 1875, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded rim, featuring a stenciled design of a rearing horse surrounding by Palatine Pottery Company maker's stenciling. Stenciled "2" at base. Some light surface wear. Rim of jar is out of round. Two in-the-firing surface chips (contact marks) to base area on proper left side of jar. In-the-firing mottling to clay on reverse/sides. H 12".
