Scarce Four-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Double-Handled Stoneware Jug, Stenciled "HAMILTON / & / ROBBINS / MANUFACTURERS / OF BEST BLUE / STONEWARE / NEW GENEVA. PA.," circa 1905, cylindrical jug with two open handles at the shoulder and tooling to base of spout, featuring Hamilton & Robbins maker's stenciling with appealing "MANUFACTURERS OF BEST BLUE STONEWARE" slogan. Desirable form and lesser-seen maker's mark representing the final years of salt-glazed stoneware production in Western Pennsylvania. Provenance: From a recently-surfaced Illinois collection. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with an Albany slip drip to front, a salt drip to proper left side, and minor residue/staining to surface. H 18".
