Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Stenciled Shield Motif, Stenciled "JAS. HAMILTON & CO. / GREENSBORO, / PA.," circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and rounded rim, featuring James Hamilton & Co. maker's stenciling within a shield, accented with small stenciled star, floral, foliate, and geometric motifs. Freehand stripe decoration to shoulder and base. Base with stenciled "2" flanked by stenciled flourishes. A thin 2 1/4" crack on underside, continuing 4 1/2" up base on proper left side. Some light wear to stenciling. H 11 3/4".
