Stoneware Jar with Incised Floral Decoration, attributed the Crolius Family, Manhattan, NY, circa 1800, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and open loop handles, decorated on the front and reverse with incised floral motifs featuring a bud flanked by splayed leaves. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: Ex-Betty and Joel Schatzberg, Riverside, CT. Shallow chipping to base. Areas of crazing and surface lines, primarily to one side, not visible on interior. Rim is out-of-round. An in-the-firing contact mark near midsection on one side. A short surface line to top of one handle. which does not extend through handle. An in-the-firing ping to collar. Some residue from use to upper body. H 11 1/4".
