Two Glazed Redware Jars with Coggled Decoration, Norwalk, CT origin, circa 1840, an ovoid jar with applied lug handles and original domed lid, each decorated with elaborate coggled banding and splashes of manganese under a clear lead glaze; paired with a related, larger jar. Provenance: Warren F. Hartmann Collection. Smaller jar with two base chips and a large in-the-firing ping near base, wear to rim and one handle, a 3 1/2" crack from rim, minor surface wear, and minor in-the-firing flaws to surface. Lid with restoration to edge, chipping and short lines to flange on underside, reglued knob, and chips to knob. Larger jar with base chips, shallow chips and wear to rim, in-the-firing pings to surface, and light surface wear. H (of smaller jar, including lid) 11".
