Glazed Redware Figure of a Standing Lion, PA origin, circa 1850-1880, hand-modeled figure of a standing lion with open mouth, sculpted teeth, and protruding tongue, elaborately incised with details to the head, mane, haunches, tail tip, and feet. Impressed circular eyes. Rare scroddled clay composition under a clear lead glaze. Applied clay pieces in the cavity of the lion allow it to rattle when shaken. Desirable form. Full restoration to rear legs. A 5/8" section of one front leg is reglued. Other front leg entirely reglued. Fill and coloring to the bottom of the feet (which includes a small filled and colored chip to one front feet) suggest this figure may have originally been attached to a base. A tiny nick to one ear. In-the-firing fissures to rear end. L 5" ; H 4 1/2".
