Rare One-Gallon Salt-Glazed Stoneware Jug, Stamped "J C," John Wesley Carpenter, Pipers Gap, Carroll County, VA, fourth quarter 19th century, ovoid jug with tooled shoulder and flared spout with tooled accents, the surface dipped in kaolin slip and covered in a clear salt glaze. Impressed with John Wesley Carpenter initialed maker's mark at shoulder, beside a one-gallon capacity mark. Very nice condition with small base chips, some light wear to spout, and a small in-the-firing ping to handle. H 11".
