Rare Small-Sized Salt-Glazed Stoneware Jug, Stamped "A.C," Anderson Craven, second quarter 19th century, ovoid jug with rounded spout, impressed at the shoulder in large letters, "A.C," used by John Anderson Craven (1801-1872). Craven's stamp likely read "A.C" (and not J.A.C) due to the fact that he was commonly referred to as Anderson. Few signed pieces by this earlier Craven family potter are known. This example features a desirable small size and visually-appealing salt runs extending from the shoulder on the front and side to the base on the reverse. A 2 1/4" x 1 1/4" flake to underside extending to base of jug on front, possibly in-the-firing. A faint 3/4" diagonal line to shoulder, likely in-the-firing. H 8 1/2".
