Rare Glazed Redware Spittoon with Elaborate Coggled Decoration, New England origin, possibly Bristol County, MA, second quarter 19th century, cylindrical form with recessed opening on top and carved opening at shoulder, the upper edge and sides profusely-decorated with coggled motifs. Top edge decorated with manganese over a yellow clay ground with overlying clear lead glaze. A jug with closely-related color and glaze was sold as lot 358 in Crocker Farm, Inc.'s March 24, 2018 auction. Provenance: Crocker Farm, Inc., March 23, 2019, lot 404. Wear to upper edge and opening at shoulder. Light surface wear elsewhere. A few shallow chips to hole in top center. Minor base chips. H 3 1/2" ; Diam. 6 1/2".
