Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Pheasant on Stump Decoration, Stamped "FORT EDWARD / POTTERY CO.," George Satterlee, Fort Edward, NY, circa 1859, semi-ovoid jug with semi-squared spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a pheasant with turned head, perched in the crook of a tree stump. Slip-trailed ground cover below. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A 5/8" hole near base on side of jug. Staining to surface. A narrow in-the-firing ping to edge of spout on front. A small spout chip to reverse. A small in-the-firing contact mark to left of bird. Some minor wear to cobalt. A faint 4" Y-shaped line in reverse. Residue to interior of spout. H 14".
