Redware Pitcher with Tin Handle, Stamped "PAT. JUN, 27, 1876, F. SCHIFFERLE, ST. LOUIS, MO," circa 1876, cylindrical form with small pouring spout, the glazed surface featuring dark-brown speckling over a lighter ground. Pitcher is fitted with an original tin handle secured with a band at the shoulder and base, the lower band impressed with Fridolin Schifferle maker's mark and patent date. One of the "Culinary Vessels" Fridolin Schifferle, a St. Louis producer of tin and other metal work, patented in 1876, with the ceramic objects presumably being made at some local pottery for him to fit with tin. Small rim chips and rim wear. H 3 7/8".
