One-Gallon Vertical-Handled Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Star Decoration, Manhattan, NY origin, possibly Egbert Schoonmaker, circa 1795, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and applied vertical handles, brush-decorated on the front and reverse with an eight-pointed star. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals.Provenance: Warren F. Hartmann Collection. A 1" in-the-firing chip near base on one side. A sliver-shaped ping to midsection on opposing side. In-the-firing iron residue to rim. A few small rim chips. In-the-firing fissures to the terminals of one handle, often seen on stoneware from this period. Handle remains soundly intact. H 9 3/4".
