Extremely Rare Three-Gallon Open-Handled Stoneware Water Cooler with Exuberant Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "H. MYERS," attributed to Henry Remmey, Sr. or Jr., at Henry Myers's Baltimore Stoneware Manufactory, Baltimore, MD, circa 1821-1829, ovoid cooler with tall collar, two applied vertical handles at the upper body, flaring base with rounded foot, and trapezoidal bunghole; brush-decorated on the front and reverse with a horizontal stem featuring broadly-brushed leaves and three-petaled flowers—all hallmarks of stoneware produced at merchant Henry Myer's Baltimore Stoneware Manufactory. Additional heavy foliate decoration to collar on front and reverse. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals and along the edge of the bunghole. Impressed at the shoulder with "H. MYERS" stamp above a three-gallon capacity mark. Among the most important pieces known bearing this mark, this work combines high decorative appeal, evidenced in its vasiform potting and enamel-like brushwork, with extreme rarity, distinguished as one of only three documented Myers coolers. Provenance: A prominent Mid-Atlantic collection. A sealed top-to-bottom crack from rim on reverse. Professional restoration to base on reverse. H 15".
