Two Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jars, Western PA origin, circa 1875, both of semi-ovoid form, one featuring stenciled and freehand decoration and the stenciled advertising, "H.F. BEHRENS. / WHEELING. W. VA," the other featuring stenciled fern motifs and the stenciled maker's mark, "HAMILTON & / JONES. / AGENTS. / GREENSBORO. / PA." Behrens jar with a hairline across underside, continuing onto base in two places, a few chips to bottom edge of rim, one of which is glazed over, some light staining, and light surface wear. Hamilton & Jones jar with an approximately 4 1/4" spider crack to right of stenciling and three minor chips to interior of rim. H (of each) approx. 12".
