Fine Four-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jug, attributed to Landrum Brick and Pottery, Columbia, SC, mid 19th century, ovoid jug with squared spout molding, the surface covered in a streaky, pale-green alkaline glaze over a light clay ground. The jug was likely dipped in its glaze multiple times to achieve its dynamic, multi-layered surface. Impressed with Landrum cross at shoulder. Desirable large size and excellent color. Thin cracks around base, which appear to be in-the-firing. (Base was not broken out or reglued.) A minor spout chip, probably in-the-firing. Two short, in-the-firing lines to midsection. A few base chips. A minor, glazed-over in-the-firing fissure to lower handle terminal. H 17".
