Half-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to the Wilkes Street Pottery, Alexandria, VA, circa 1845, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and squared rim, brush-decorated with horizontal tulip motifs around the midsection. Wilkes Street Pottery half-gallon capacity mark to shoulder. Most pieces of this style were made by Benedict C. Milburn at his Wilkes Street Pottery for merchant, Hugh Charles Smith. Provenance: From a recently-surfaced Virginia collection. A chip to rim and shoulder molding. Light wear to cobalt. A minor base and small lime ping near base. H 7 3/4".
