Fine and Rare One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Elaborate Cobalt Clover Decoration, attributed to Joseph B. Remmey or J.B. Magee, Northeast, MD, circa 1880, ovoid pitcher with footed base, brush-decorated with two drooping clover motifs ascending the front. Swag decoration to collar and dash decoration to spout. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Literature: For a jar bearing a related clover motif excavated between the Remmey and Magee sites in Northeast, see Koterski, Potters and Firebrick Makers of Cecil County, Maryland, and Nearby 1750-1950, p. 47. Reglued breaks in underside including some filler to flakes in underside. Sealed cracks emanate from this damage partway up the body of the pitcher. H 12 1/2".
