Extremely Rare Glazed Redware Jar with Profuse Slip-Trailed Heart and Wavy Line Decorations, Inscribed Twice "L P," Bristol County, MA origin, late 18th century, ovoid jar with footed base and short rim, decorated at the shoulder in slip-trailed yellow slip with the initials, "L P," and on the sides with two cross-hatched hearts. Further decorated throughout with various abstract wavy line designs. Surface covered in a clear lead glaze. While following a typical Bristol County form and glaze, the profuse application of slip is highly unusual for this region and New England redware jars in general. Broken into numerous pieces and reglued with some filled spots. Chips and wear to rim and inner rim for lid. Base chips. A 1/2" hole drilled in underside. H 12 1/4".
