Scarce Large-Sized Redware Dish with Three-Color Slip Decoration, North Carolina origin, late 18th or early 19th century, with footed base and semi-rounded rim, the interior center decorated with cream-colored slip spots surrounded by a cream-colored slip band and numerous inverted U-shaped trails of copper slip, together forming a stylized flower blossom or sun motif. Decorated above with a wavy band of slip-trailed manganese slip between thin slip-trailed bands of cream-colored slip. Interior coated in a clear led glaze. Excellent size. Provenance: The Southern Folk Pottery Collectors Society Auction of the Collection of Ron and Gwen Griffith, lot 1, illustrated on cover of catalog. A thin 4 1/8" crack from rim. A few rim chips. Wear to interior, including losses to slip. Chipping around foot. H 2 3/8" ; Diam. 14 3/4".
