Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to Henry Harrison Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1840, ovoid jar with footed base, flared collar, and applied lug handles, brush-decorated on the front and reverse with a double-stemmed tulip plant. Large cobalt highlights to handle terminals and a wavy line of cobalt beneath each handle with a flower emanating from it. A few rim chips, one of which is glazed over. A 1 7/8" x 1 1/8" flake to underside at edge. A thin 1 1/4" flake to foot with a 3/4" vertical surface line ascending from it, not visible on interior. A minor base chip. A second 3/4" surface line to base, not visible on interior. Surface staining. H 11 3/4".
