Extremely Rare Stoneware Pitcher with Incised Bird Decoration, attributed to Branch Green, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1820, ovoid pitcher with footed base and heavy tooling to collar and base of collar, decorated on the front with an incised and cobalt-highlighted design of a flying bird approaching a three-petaled flowering plant. Cobalt slash decoration to left and right. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. A highly unusual work for this potter in both decoration and form. Provenance: Excavated in Philadelphia. Pete Haggarty Collection. Restored cracks to body. Areas of significant restoration to collar. Restoration to underside. H 13 1/4".
