Fine Stoneware Cake Crock with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to Henry Harrison Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1830, cylindrical crock with heavily-tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied lug handles, brush-decorated on the front and reverse with a multi-stemmed flowering plant bearing five fan-shaped blossoms. Large cobalt highlights to handle terminals, the area below each handle decorated with a curved stripe above a wavy stripe. Among the best Remmey family examples of this form that we have offered. Light scattered exfoliation to surface on one side, not affecting decoration. Small base chips. A small chip to exterior of rim. Staining to underside. Diam. 9 5/8" ; H 5 1/4".
